Behold the man upon the cross..my sin upon His shoulder
When I reflect on the cross and how He died for me, it hurts my heart to know that the punishment I should have received was put on a righteous man. Just recently, I wrote a paper on Luke 22 - 24, which is his version of the Passion of Christ. I love the part when Luke talks about the two criminals who are being crucified beside Jesus, and how one criminal mocks Jesus, telling Him to save them and Himself if He was really the King of the Jews. The other criminal rebukes him for saying such things, and telling him that they deserved the punishment they were receiving, but that Jesus was sinless. And then, when he turns to Jesus and asks to be remembered, Jesus answers him by saying that he would see Him in paradise. It reminds me of the beautiful gift that God has given to me, that I am able to enter heaven because of His Son.
We sang this old hymn during service on Sunday. It epitomizes the Son, His sacrifice, death and ressurection. It reminds me of how I should be living my life. That because He has sacrificed Himself for me, that the only thing I can do is to repond back and offer my life to Him.
When I Survey The Wonderous Cross
When I survey the wonderous cross
On which the Price of Glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride
Forbid it Lord, that I should boast
Save in the death of Christ my God
All the vain things that charm me most
I sacrifice them to His blood
See, from His head, His hands, His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did ever such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns composed so rich a crown?
Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were a present far too small
Love so amazing, so divince
Demands my soul, my life, my all
May the Lord continue to bless you and may you discover the peace and joy that I have in the Person who suffered the most for me; Jesus Christ, Saviour of all.
